Indo-American Foundation Inc
Providing affordable, quality education in rural India.
Brief history & our Mission
India has made significant economic and social progress in spite of its enormous population. It was possible because of the great progress made in educating the vast population since Independence. However, among the 65% of the population living in rural areas, the literacy rate is still less than 70%. Students from rural areas have poorer economic background and with fewer institutions around, have less access to education. This has motivated Indo-American Foundation (IAF), initially, to build and donate, badly needed 15 buildings, to the public schools. Later, IAF built a college in 1998 and high school in 2005, in a rural community in Tamil Nadu. The aim was to make a quality education affordable and accessible for students in the rural community. This is especially preferable for girls, whose parents prefer them not to travel too far or to stay in dormitories.
